Why HELM
We start by understanding your group — how you travel, what matters to you, what your budget actually is. Then we find the yacht that fits. Not the most expensive one. Not the one that's easiest for us to sell. The one that's right for you.
Our BVI credentials
Every year our brokers fly out to the BVI Charter Yacht Show to step aboard the boats, meet the crews, and taste the food. We've been doing this since 2015 and there's a good reason our clients keep coming back to the BVI.
Hundreds of BVI charters a year means we know which yachts are worth it, where there's room to negotiate, and when demand is moving fast.
You'll be assigned one broker from first conversation to the moment you step off the dock. They'll know the BVI, know the boats, and will take expert care of you right the way through.
"HELM found us the best Cats and Crew in the BVIs! It's really the details that separate the good from the great. I was impressed with their ability to curate a very unique voyage with a ton of special requests. I was genuinely impressed every single day!"

All-inclusive
Most BVI crewed catamarans are all-inclusive — one price covers everything below. Your broker will tell you upfront exactly what's included before you commit to anything.
BVI charter costs
Crew gratuity is not included in the charter fee. It's customary to tip 15–20% of the weekly rate at the end of the charter. Your broker will explain exactly what's covered before you commit to anything.
All prices are approximate weekly charter fees for the full vessel.
BVI Charter Yacht Show 2025
Every year our brokers fly out to the BVI Charter Yacht Show. These are six yachts we boarded, met the crews and came away impressed by.
When you enquire with HELM you don't get a call centre. You get a dedicated broker who has been to the British Virgin Islands — who knows which catamaran has the best crew for your group, which anchorages are less crowded in February, and whether you're better suited to a sailing cat or a power cat.

Start planning →Common questions
Do I need sailing experience?
None at all. On a crewed charter your captain handles all the sailing. You show up, step aboard and hand the rest to people who know these waters. The BVI is specifically designed for this — short passages, calm seas, a captain who's done it hundreds of times.
What's actually included in the price?
Most BVI crewed catamarans are all-inclusive — the captain, the chef, all meals, all drinks, fuel, mooring fees and water toys in a single weekly rate. No surprise invoices at the end. Your broker will tell you upfront if your yacht is all-inclusive or APA before you commit to anything.
How far in advance should we book?
For peak season (December–April) the best yachts typically book 8–12 months ahead. If you're planning for Christmas or New Year, start now. Shoulder season (May–June, November) has more availability, but the yachts we'd recommend still go early. If you have dates in mind, talk to a broker.
Can we fly into St Thomas instead of Tortola?
Yes — many of our clients do. St Thomas (STT) has direct flights from most major US cities and is a 45-minute ferry crossing to Tortola. Your broker will know which yachts can accommodate a St Thomas arrival and help plan the transfer so it's straightforward rather than complicated.
How much should we budget for a group of 8?
A good all-inclusive crewed catamaran for 8 guests starts from around $20,000 per week — roughly $350–$500 per person per day once you split it. That covers the yacht, the crew, all food, all drinks and water toys. The main additional cost is crew gratuity, typically 15–20% of the charter fee.
What makes HELM different from booking direct?
When you book direct you get the yacht the operator wants to sell you. When you book through HELM you get a broker who has been to the BVI, stepped aboard the boats and met the crews — and who knows which catamaran has the right crew for your group. We charge no booking fee. The cost is the same either way.
"Around 80% of our BVI clients choose a crewed catamaran. It's an easy choice for an effortless week. The all-inclusive model clinches it. Once you explain that the boat, the crew, all the food, all the drinks and every water toy on board come in a single weekly price, people wonder why they ever booked a villa."
